How do I know when by Customs bond expires?

At TRG, we are constantly getting questions from our bondholders about the terms of their Customs bond.

The thing about a continuous import bond is that it doesn’t necessarily have a pre-set “term-date”. The termination date that many customers are referring to is the actual anniversary date of the bond. A continuous bond is in fact continuous.  This bond is on file with US Customs and will remain on file until it is terminated by the broker or surety. Either of which would need to have a valid Power of Attorney form on file to do so. So as long as you continue to pay your invoice every billing cycle (either 1, 2 or 3-year payment terms) the same bond will remain on file until you choose to renew with a different company or cease your imports.

What’s great about purchasing your Customs bond directly from a Surety is that should you switch brokers or have multiple brokers, the bond remains with the same surety and simply supply that bond number to the person/company filing your entries.

Eagle Eye is a web-based system that stores all of TRG’s customers’ entry information as well as bond parameters, liquidated damages and supplemental duties. By signing up for Eagle Eye (FREE), you can access these reports whenever you want to.
